Getting Sketchy With It

3-piece 1/2\More 3D modeling with SketchUP… this time I did the 3-piece ball valves I get from MoreBeer.com and have on many of my kettles, including the 26 gallon HD beast.

Kettle with thermo & valveOnce those two components (valve and thermometer) were sketched, I turned them into components and fit them into the model of the kettle. Here is the assembled kettle. I didn’t bother modeling the false bottom – Since it goes inside the kettle, it won’t ever create any “interference” issues when I am putting the sculpture stand together. It also would be a royal PITA to model the hundreds of little holes in it – no thanks.

That looks really good. I haven’t played with the program, but I assume you can move the models 360′ in a 3-D type of environment?

You can rotate all around, actually go inside the kettle and look thru the valve – everything. It’s actually an architectural modeling program, designed for houses, etc – but it can handle dimensions down to 1/64″, so it works for things on a smaller scale too.

    Very very cool stuff…
